Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Leading Abusive Chants About Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United only seven months after leading derogatory taunts aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a deal joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds was ended amicably in August.

Among the player's final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading insulting chants about Wilder amid the club’s promotion party in April. Currently, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to rescue the team he loves out of the bottom places.

Past Conflict Involving Bamford & Wilder

The pair had a past before Leeds moved up to the top flight the previous campaign and United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

Everything seems has been forgiven and forgotten with Sheffield United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front while Bamford hoping to revive his playing days.

The Wilder chant gained traction in April. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, called Wilder the next day.

Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I’ve no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure regarding the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him calling me.

“We had a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a super guy, a class act. When I was playing we used to dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, including Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with it and I told him that to Patrick.”
